The inauguration of the supercomputer “Hyperion” at the Donostia International Physics Center (DIPC), in San Sebastián, marks a milestone for Euskadi, positioning it among the leading supercomputing regions in Spain.
Hyperion becomes the third most powerful supercomputer in the State, and it gives service to the researchers from the Basque Science, Technology and Innovation Network.
With an initial capability of 14,000 cores and 150 TB of RAM memory, and expansion plans up to 30,000 cores and 300 TB, Hyperion´s setting up is framed inside the global strategy of the Education Department of the Basque Goverment of providing the scientific community of necessary tools and infrastructures for its work. i2basque has collaborated in the installation of the supercomputer, providing 111 cores to the infrastructure.
